The visual work entitled “Visual-braille I” consists of scattered opinions that were engraved in the mind of its creator, Dimitris Kapetanou, when he was invited in an earlier work of his – entitled “braille” – to interview people who are blind and with impaired vision. His contact with these people continues to this day. During this osmosis, issues of everyday life and artistic expression become the core of discussions. The originality of what the interviewees say and the creator’s communication with them, form separate experiences, but also many common experiences, which are encoded as words and phrases in the braille system on a surface, in order to achieve a reversal of roles in the concept of viewing and for the sighted to come into the position of those who are blind visiting an exhibition space, a gallery or a museum and their direct contact with a wall and painting work is not ensured.
